Is Your Building Ready for a New Door?

At Diamond Doors, we’ve made it as simple as possible to install your bifold door. However, there is some prep work that needs to be done before your door arrives. If you’re not sure where to start, here’s a quick summary of what you’ll need to do.

P.S. If you’d rather have someone else do the work for you, talk to our sales team. We would be glad to recommend a Diamond Doors dealer or installer in your area to help you out.

1. Check the structural integrity of your building.

This is a critical step to ensure that your building is structurally sound and capable of withstanding the load of a bifold door for many years to come. We strongly recommend hiring a professional.

2. Gather your building information.

You’ll need to know your building type and dimensions so that you can finalize your door size with the Diamond Doors sales team. If you are looking for a checklist of the building information that you’ll need, you can find that on our Parts and Services page, or download the file by clicking the button below.

3. Remove your existing door and finishing material.

You’ll need to make room for your new door to be installed. Remove your existing door and finishing materials around the door frame to expose your door jambs and header. This is also a good time to reinforce your door jambs and header if needed.

4. Prepare your foundation for the header (optional).

If you are ordering a self-supporting header for your bifold door, you’ll need to make sure that the foundation is prepared to support that header. You can secure the header to an existing concrete foundation, or install new footings or screw piles. If your door will be hung directly on your building, you can skip this step.

5. Ensure your wiring and electrical supply is adequate.

Finally, you will need to ensure that your electrical supply and building wiring is prepared to power your door. The requirements do vary depending on door size and the available power supply, but our sales team is happy to provide you with the information you need. You’ll also need to ensure that adequate wiring is available at the top and center of your clear opening for easy installation of your new bifold door.
