Why choose the self-supporting header?

Mount your door past the building’s frame to get a bigger clear opening.

The self-supporting header option allows you to mount your bifold door above the building frame. This provides a clear opening that can span the entire width and height of the face of your building – an especially helpful option for quonsets, small buildings, and other uniquely shaped buildings.

Provides additional support when your building can’t hold the load of the bifold door on its own.

The self-supporting header holds the vertical load of the bifold door, providing support to a building that isn’t strong enough on its own. While adding additional bracing directly to your building serves the same purpose, we’ve consistently found that the self-supporting header option is more affordable, more efficient, and works just as well.

What is the self-supporting header?

The self-supporting header provides bracing and support to your bifold door. It consists of two vertical columns – which support the door and provide a track for the door rollers to follow – and a web truss header system.

Just like a Diamond door, the self-supporting header is easy to install. The vertical columns are mounted to the exterior of the building and anchored into the building’s foundation. The door and header are then lifted into place and bolted to the vertical columns with a simple four bolt connection.

Had two Diamond doors installed this past fall…did a self standing door on the quonset… So much better than the old sliders. Turned out to be a pretty simple install. Very happy!

What makes the Diamond Doors Self Supporting Header Unique?

It’s Easier to Install

Like our doors, the Diamond self-supporting header is simple to install. It arrives with the bifold door pre-attached to the header. After the vertical columns have been lifted into place, all it takes is a simple, four bolt connection to install the door and header. (We pre-drill the holes for this connection to eliminate the guesswork and measuring.)

We Include Everything You Need

We provide all the hardware you need to install the door and self-supporting header at no extra cost. Bolts, mounting brackets, and a detailed instruction manual are included to keep your install project on track and lower your costs.

With the design we didn’t lose any overhead clearance and we were able to make the door opening 2 feet wider on each side that wasn’t possible with the sliders that we replaced. We did the install ourselves. It’s a very well built door and the craftsmanship is also top notch.

The Loutchan’s Quonset

Mount your door past the building’s frame to get a bigger clear opening.

The Loutchan’s own a third-generation family grain farm. This farm, originally founded by Ron Loutchan’s grandfather, is nearly 100 years old. With a quonset machine shop built in 1989, the Loutchans found that their biggest difficulty was fitting their large equipment through their old machine shop door. Having lasted the test of time, quonset buildings…
